Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are mainline Pokémon RPGs that introduced the series to full 3D gameplay for the first time. Set in the beautiful Kalos region, inspired by France, these games bring fresh visuals, new mechanics, and a modern Pokémon experience while keeping the classic gym-and-champion journey intact.
With the debut of Mega Evolution, new Pokémon types, and online features, Pokémon X and Y marked a major evolution for the franchise.
How to Play Pokémon X and Y
Choose Your Starter Pokémon
At the start of your journey in Vaniville Town, choose one of three Kalos starters:
- Chespin (Grass-type) – Strong defense
- Fennekin (Fire-type) – Special attack focused
- Froakie (Water-type) – Fast and versatile
Later, you also receive a Kanto starter capable of Mega Evolution.
Catch, Train, and Battle
Explore routes, caves, and cities to catch wild Pokémon. Train your team through battles, learn new moves, and evolve Pokémon to build a balanced squad.
Defeat Gym Leaders
Kalos features 8 Gym Leaders, each with visually unique gyms and type-based challenges. Winning badges allows you to progress through the story and control higher-level Pokémon.
Mega Evolution
Pokémon X and Y introduce Mega Evolution, a temporary transformation that greatly boosts a Pokémon’s stats and may change its type or abilities during battle.
Battle Team Flare
The villainous Team Flare seeks to reshape the world using an ancient ultimate weapon. You’ll uncover their plans and stop them through story-driven battles.
